This privacy policy sets out how the Droimeann Cattle Co-Operative Society Ltd. uses and protects any information that members give us when applying for membership, using our website and/or online herd book.
The Droimeann Cattle Co-Operative Society Ltd. is committed to ensuring that members privacy is protected. This privacy statement describes the online information practices which the Droimeann Cattle Co-Operative Society Ltd. employ in relation to the information which our members/customers provide when applying for or using:
- Our registers; members register, register of shareholders and board members, registers of herds and individual cattle, register of payments, expenditure and accounts and all other registers compiled and maintained by the society for the purpose of fulfilling the societies’ aims.
- Our website; www.droimeanncattlesociety.com , our facebook page and any other social media sites that the society may use in future as well as websites of associated societies that the society is affiliated with such as the Irish Rare Breeds Society.
- The ICBF Taurus system which the society uses to maintain our herd-book and register births, issue pedigree certificates etc.
- The society, in order to accurately record pedigree data in relation to livestock will have to submit samples and associated data to the laboratories at Teagasc and Weatherbys Ltd. and the department of agriculture will have the right to access any such data held by the society.
- The society, may for the betterment of the breed, share data with other organisations, both public and private, for the purpose of promoting the breed and certified produce.
By accessing and using these services members are accepting and agreeing to the practices described in this Privacy Statement.
Irish Droimeann Cattle Co-Operative Society Ltd. may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. Members should check this page from time to time to ensure that they are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from 25th May 2018. If any member does not agree with our policy we would suggest that member does not use our services.
What we collect
We may collect the following information:
- Name, address and contact details as well as herd number and herd prefix details.
- Details relating to the member’s farming enterprise, eg. beef or dairy farmer and what schemes the member is a participant in, eg Organic Farming Scheme, Beef Data Genomic Programme, etc. Members may also wish to share details relating to livestock with other members, eg. milk yield and kill out weights, sale prices, fertility, calving frequency, etc.
- Details relating to individual cattle for the purpose of issuing pedigree certificates and determining ancestry/ co-ancestry of cattle.
- Details relating to cattle for sale, people looking for cattle, etc. We may forward contact details of members to people requesting information on the breed with a view to procuring pedigree cattle.
What we do with the information we gather
We require this information to provide members with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:
- Internal record keeping.
- Issuing pedigree certificates.
- We may use the information to improve services.
- We may periodically send update/information emails about new/changes in services and fees, special offers or other information which we think members may find interesting using the email or postal address which members have provided.
- From time to time, we may also use members information to contact members for research purposes. We may contact members by email or phone as well as by post. We may use the information to customise the website and online herd book according to members interests.
- Because the breed has only recently been recognised by the department of agriculture giving the society the right to maintain a herd-book (25th April 2018) and hence we are only now in a position to compare droimeann cattle with other breeds and to market cattle and produce as certified by the society we may use members’ information for comparative analysis and marketing purposes.
- We may use members’ information to promote the breed and the society in the media or in communication with other organisations or individuals who may be of assistance in achieving the societies’ aims.

We are committed to ensuring that members information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
